Using long read sequencing technology, we assembled highly contiguous genomes of several species of Photobacterium isolated from the light organs of various fish species. Using comparative genomics identified genetic attributes specific to strains associated with particular hosts to gain a better understanding of how these pairwise partnerships have been shaped through time.

We are also using genetically engineered strains of P. mandapamensis to empirically test the involvement of particular genes in the symbiosis with Siphamia tubifer.
Stay tuned for the results!
